NYC Cortlandt Street 1900

This photograph is of Cortlandt Street, looking west from Greenwich Street taken about the turn of the last century. This is one of those photos that can't be cropped without losing important parts of the image. Because of this, the image will not fill the entire photographic paper (ie. an 12x18 print will contain an 12x12 image).
On the street are numerous horse drawn carts. Most of businessses seem to be wholesalers and manufacturers incliding candy, bird food, & electrical supplies. Looking closely with a magnifying glass, I can read a banner advertising Piels Bros. Lager Beer. There is also someone pushig a cart that looks to be fillled with bananas. At the far end of the street are the piers on the Hudson river. A excellent look at New York City, one hundred years ago.
